Why this program exists
Leaving government service is not a simple career change.
Moving into the private sector often means stepping into a different set of expectations, language, and norms. Titles, responsibilities, and impact are interpreted differently, and many accomplished professionals struggle to explain their experience in ways that resonate outside government.
This uncertainty can make the transition feel isolating and harder than it needs to be. The Government-to-Private Sector Transition Cohort exists to provide structure, clarity, and support as you navigate this exciting and often scary next chapter.
What the Government Transition Cohort is
The cohort runs for four weeks and is designed for active participation. Each week includes a live group session, supported by coaching and a private peer community between sessions.
Duration: Four weeks
Format: Live virtual group sessions
Session length: 60 minutes per week
Cohort size: Small, intentionally limited groups
Coaching: One 1:1 coaching session included
Community: Private Signal group with ongoing discussion and regular facilitation during the program and for two weeks after it ends
What we cover during the program
Translating Your Government Experience

Strengthen your core narrative so it is clear, credible, and easy to understand outside government
Interviewing Without Rank or Title

Strengthen how you answer common questions and ask smart questions that show judgment and fit

Identify target companies, build an outreach list, and initiate conversations with confidence
Learn how to turn conversations into momentum, referrals, and real opportunities
Negotiating and Understanding Private-Sector Compensation

Learn how to evaluate offers holistically, beyond base salary
Practice negotiation approaches that are informed, thoughtful, and aligned with your goals
Throughout the program, you will be supported through live sessions, coaching, and a small peer group of professionals navigating the same transition.

What you will have by the end of the program
Clarity on which private-sector paths align with your experience and goals
Clear insight into how your experience aligns with roles across private-sector organizations, including the tech industry
Language to describe your background in ways that resonate outside government
Greater confidence in networking and interviews
A personalized, realistic plan for what comes next
This program is designed to build clarity, confidence, and momentum. It does not guarantee job offers on a fixed timeline.
This program is a good fit for you if
You feel "pigeonholed" by your government title and struggle to explain your value to private sector recruiters.
You’re applying to roles but getting rejected for being either "overqualified" or "underqualified."
You feel technically capable but terrified of salary negotiations and the loss of the pension safety net.
You want a strategy to map your skills to private sector needs.
This cohort may not be the right fit if
You are primarily seeking resume editing or job postings
You are looking for a one-time information session rather than a multi-week program
You are not able to participate in live sessions
