Reframing Your Government Career for the Private Sector
How to think about what comes next
Leaving government is rarely a straight line. Many people feel pressure to choose a role, update their resume, and move quickly, even while sorting through uncertainty, grief, and big questions about identity and direction in a difficult job market.
This workshop creates space to step back briefly so your next move is deliberate, not reactive. Together, we’ll begin mapping potential paths with clarity and intention, grounded in your values and transferable skills, even if they don’t feel obvious yet.
The next runnings are:
January 20 at 4:00pm PT 7:00pm ET
January 22 at 9:00am PT / 12:00pm ET
This is a FREE, live, virtual, practical session.
This workshop is a good fit if…
You are considering a move out of public service and are unsure how to start
You want help thinking beyond job titles to understand how your experience translates
You feel pressure to move quickly but know you need time to reflect before committing
You are navigating mixed emotions about leaving meaningful work and rethinking your identity
You want a structured, thoughtful way to explore options without rushing into the wrong role
What I’ll cover in the workshop
This session is designed to help you step out of reaction mode and start making sense of your options in an actionable, realistic way.
During our time together, we’ll focus on:
Reframing your experience
Learn how to look beyond job titles and agencies to identify the skills, patterns, and strengths that translate into private-sector roles and environments.
Understanding the range of roles
Learn about common private-sector roles that often align with public service experience, including options people frequently overlook or do not realize are accessible.
Separating urgency from direction
Clarify what truly needs to happen now versus what deserves more exploration before you commit to a specific path.
Approaching transition as a process
Understand how to move forward through informed experimentation and reflection. We will also acknowledge the emotional and identity shifts that often come with leaving a career in public service.
What you’ll leave with
By the end of the session, you will have:
Clearer direction on how to figure out which paths are worth exploring next
A framework for describing your experience in ways that make sense outside government
A practical way to evaluate timing, pressure, and tradeoffs as you move forward
How the workshop works
This is a live, interactive session designed to support reflection, clarity, and thoughtful next steps. You do not need to have a plan in place or a clear destination in mind to attend.
Logistics
Live, virtual workshop
